The Annual Induction Dinner will take place on Saturday, November 16th at Pier Sixty in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. The original Chelsea Piers (Piers 54-63) opened in 1910. Luxury ocean liners accounted for most of the Piers’ traffic, however, by 1935 the majority of cruise ships had moved uptown to dock and mainly freighter ships were still using Chelsea Piers. The last ship sailed in 1967, and for a while the Piers were used as storage, a repair shop for sanitation department vehicles and warehouses. But in the early 1990s, rights to Chelsea Pier were bought to convert Piers 59 through 62 into a recreation center. And in 1995, the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex opened. Today, it is a thriving complex with multiple options for activities, sports and entertainment. The Pier Sixty Collection opened in 1998 and consists of three spectacular event spaces.
